Featured Hornady Launching New Ammo Lines In 2018 Industry News November 14, 2017 0 COMMENT Written by Jacki Billings As SHOT Show season approaches and manufacturers gear up for new goodies in 2018, it’s no surprise that Hornady has already announced new ammo set to hit dealer shelves next year. Alongside a Critical Defense rifle load, the company’s new ammo products will include Subsonic and Frontier Cartridges. Designed for personal defense, the Critical Defense Rifle series includes a 155-grain 308 as well as 55 and 73-grain .223 loads. Equipped with nickel-plated cases for increased visibility in low light and smoother feeding, Critical Defense Rifle ammunition also offers low-flash propellants that won’t disrupt vision at night. Hornady also serves up a 300 Blackout Subsonic load engineered for better performance below the speed of sound. The 190-grain Sub-X bullet, outfitted with a lead core, offers long grooves in its metal jacket married with a flat profile and Flex Tip insert which work to expand reliably at low velocities. Ideal for use alongside a suppressor, the load offers a low flash signature and quieter performance. The Frontier Cartridge, available in February 2018 in .223 and 5.56, works for a mass appeal with use ranging from plinking and target shooting to hunting and self-defense. The series will supply an array of packaging sizes to fit shooters needs to include 20 count, 150 count, 500 count and 1000 count boxes. In addition to new ammunition lines, Hornady has prepared a 6.5 Precision Rifle cartridge for long range performance. Available on the Precision Hunter and Match series, the 6.5 Precision Rifle cartridge touts a flat trajectory, high levels of accuracy and extended range performance. Hornady will also expand its offerings on several popular series to include Varmint Express, Critical Duty, Dangerous Game and Precision Hunter — all slated to make their debut in early 2018.
