MSG (Ret) Max Mullen a few years back while still serving with the Regiment.

Congratulations Howard “Mad Max” Mullen on your selection to be inducted into the 75TH Ranger Hall of Fame! MSG (Ret) Max Mullen was a Ranger Instructor, was recognized as a Distinguished Member of the Ranger Training Brigade, co-authored the US Army Combatives Manual and combat dropped (from 500’) onto the island of Grenada with 2/75 during Operation Urgent Fury. He was a Master Parachutist (with CBT star) and received numerous accolades during his career for leadership and ability (for instance at one point his Ranger rifle platoon had the highest number of EIB (Expert Infantry Badge) recipients of any other platoon in the Regiment).

Over the course of his 26-year career MSG (Ret) Mullen served with the following units:

  • 75th Ranger Regimental Headquarters
  • A Co 1st Battalion Ranger 75th Infantry Regiment
  • B Co 2nd Battalion Ranger 75th Infantry Regiment
  • C Co 3rd Battalion Ranger 75th Infantry Regiment
  • Charlie Company 4th Ranger Training Battalion
  • 3rd Ranger Company “Morgan Team”
  • HHC 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment (Air Assault), 2nd Infantry Division
  • A Co 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault)
  • HHC 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment “Rakkasans”, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault)

Mullen got the word 14 APR 13 at 1415L in a phone call from the 75THRanger Regiment. Shortly afterward he wrote, “I am totally speechless and still in shock and awe…I’m still trying to take it all in…deeply honored and humbled to be accounted amongst the legends of our Ranger history. Thank you my Ranger brothers for all your support and friendship, and also to my family and friends who have stood by my side. This is not about me but about my fellow Ranger brothers. Being inducted into the Ranger Hall of Fame is one of the greatest honors a Ranger can receive. Words cannot describe the emotions and feelings I’m experiencing right now. Rangers Lead The Way!”

Mullen’s induction will be during Ranger Rendezvous 2013.
