Gear Mystery Ranch rolls out Blackjack packs Jacki Billings January 11, 2018 0 COMMENT Based off USSOCOM standard-issue SPEAR packs, the Mystery Ranch Blackjack series brings that military look and functionality to the commercial consumer market. With three sizes — 50, 80, and 100 liters — available Mystery Ranch decks out the packs in the increasingly popular Coyote color and the crowd favorite Multicam. The Blackjacks divvy up a full carbon frame married to Dyneema-CORDURA laminate that create a lightweight yet rugged pack, according to Mystery Ranch. Sporting IR-complaint YKK zippers and 500D CORDURA material, the fabric on each pack is treated with Teflon coating in addition to a polyurethane back coating for a water-repellent design. The packs offer both a stowable waist belt and lightweight bolsters that increase functionality and stability when rushing around in body armor. Each pack delivers a top-loading design with removable lids as well as an access port for radios or hydration pouches and side access zippers. Though the features on the Blackjack series are relatively the same each pack offers a slight tweak on the overall theme. The Blackjack 100 is the largest in the lineup with an overall 6,200 cu-in design and 1,400 cu-in sleeping bag compartment. The 100 supplies four total external pockets for additional storage. Due to the larger nature of this specific bag, Mystery Ranch says the 9.2-pound Blackjack 100 is equipped with a “unique frame extension” crafted to stabilize large loads. The Blackjack 80 is the mid-range system, delivering 5,000-cu-in of internal space. The pack features the same pockets found on the 100 but ditches the sleeping bag compartment on the bottom for a slightly smaller overall look and feel, weighing 8.3-pounds. The Blackjack 50 is the last in the series and the smallest at 7-pounds and 3,200 cu-in. Its slimmer build means sacrificing some external pockets, driving the 50 down to only two pockets in total. If you’re on the hunt for a cheap, inspired pack– keep moving. The Blackjack’s price tag isn’t for the faint of heart with the 100 priced at $850, the 80 at $750, and 50 at $675. Shipping in sizes small to XXL for a more custom fit, the packs are ready to order now through Mystery Ranch but will officially debut on SHOT Show floors in mid-January.
