Rare Transferable Colt R-75A Machine Gun Up For Sale

53153a1x7James D. Julia will be offering a super rare Colt R-75A machine gun that will be offered in their March 2018 auction. The Colt R-75A was an export model of the BAR that was produced in small numbers for the Dutch Army in 1924 that featured a quick change barrel system. Only 832 were produced according to a machine gun expert and all 832 were sold to Netherlands Purchasing Commission.

The gun that is up for auction can be seen in the video below and is in wonderful condition given that it was produced in 1925– likely near the end of the Colt R-75A’s production run.

James D. Julia estimates that the machine gun will sell for approximately $70,000 – $100,000 in their March 2018 auction. The rare BAR holds the distinction of being the heaviest BAR variant produced at 21 pounds and is chambered in .30-06 as well as the second most rare in terms of production numbers. How many Colt R-75As could be on the machine gun registry? Probably less than a dozen based on my limited research.

If you aren’t familiar with the R-75A machine gun, Ian McCollum from Forgotten Weapons did a pretty solid video on a later variant that is very similar to the R-75A, the Colt Monitor. The Monitor is very similar to the R-75A with some additions that made it ideal for law enforcement like a Cutts compensator and a detent system on the selector lever.

If you happen to have the means, or if you are a pleb like me that likes to window shop, check the Colt R-75A out on James D. Julia’s site.
