You may not have heard about Bad Company Tactical. If not, we'll ask ask for a couple minutes of your time. We can almost guarantee their flagship product has a place in your life. While BCT currently has a number of product lines in the oven, their bread and butter is their Rapid Retention System — or R2S — and we think you ought to know more about it.

SHOT Show 2017: Bad Company Tactical R2S Rapid Retention System

The R2S is a fully integrated gear retention methodology, consisting of a metal dovetail and corresponding base plate. The idea is smack-your-forehead simple: you mount the dovetail to whatever you want retained, and you mount the base plate to wherever you want to retain it. The base plate offers frictionless level two retention via a thumb-activated release lever.

This RS2 dovetail can be mounted to just about anything. Her, it's mounted with hose clams and then carried on a plate carrier with the R2S baseplate.

Tactical applications are many. If you use a non-standard pistol or PDW, it's an excellent option for carriage. Running a scoped Desert Eagle, suppressed HK Mark 23 or B&T TP-9 machine pistol? With one base plate and three small dovetails you can carry all three of those guns on the same “holster”.

We use that term loosely, as calling the R2S a holster really doesn’t do it justice.

This RS2 baseplate is available with a variety of belt-mounted configurations, is MOLLE compatible and can be hard mounted to walls, lockers and car dashboards.

The R2S offers more than weapons carriage, though; it also provides weapon retention. If you are running a duty carbine, mount a base plate on your support side. Now, if you have to handle a prisoner or carry a casualty, you have a weapons catch that’s level 2 secure and releases, literally, at the push of a button. You could also mount a base plate to the roof of your vehicle to rack your patrol carbine or trunk gun. Now that long gun is secure, out of the way, and rapidly accessible.

What’s truly ingenious about the R2S is its sheer versatility. The pictures you see here illustrate just a fraction of the R2S’s true potential. Pistols, long guns, radios and breaching tools are a natural progression. But almost anything can be secured with the R2S, if you can figure out a way to mount the dovetail on it. The same base plate that holds your pistol can hold your power drill when you’re working around the house. The system can be used to hold a fire extinguisher to a base plate mounted in your kitchen. You can mount large hand tools (think shovels and sledgehammers) to base plates mounted in your garage. And a single base plate is capable of holding up to 500 pounds of dead weight, which leaves a lot to our ape-like imaginations.

A breaching shotgun can be carried on your kit or your belt, or both - highlighting the beauty of the Rapid Retention System.

The R2S has already seen operational use with both American and Allied military small units, as well as domestic law enforcement teams. Anything you need held securely but accessed quickly is a candidate for the R2S. It’s fast, secure and simple – with your imagine imposing the only limit to the number of configurations.

And now, because it's just too obvious not to do it…

What is the NSSF SHOT Show?

The NSSF SHOT Show (Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade Show) and Conference is an annual event held by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. Typically attended by thousands of people from all 50 states and over a hundred countries, it is (quite rightfully) described as the “…world's premier exposition of combined firearms, ammunition, law enforcement, cutlery, outdoor apparel, optics, and related products and services.

Imagine the Worlds' Fair, but packed with everything from mini-guns and every breed of body armor, bows and boots; from eye pro and ear pro to optics and ordnance, socks to swords…you get the idea. If you'd like to see a sampling of the companies who will be showing at this year's SHOT, there's a live map right here, though it doesn't reflect the organizations set up elsewhere, in hotel suites, etc
