AfterSHOT: High Threat Concealment

I encountered HTC (@highthreatconcealment) at the Troy Industries booth this year and ran into Ian Strimbeck. Ian was wearing a shirt from Velocity Systems and and had three mag pouches just hanging on it. No Velcro, no MOLLE.

What witchcraft is this?

Turns out the shirt was designed for those in need of low visibility in a high threat environment. Need access to equipment with armor, but don't want to look like G.I. Joe or a mall ninja? Check out this new garment.

The shirt is extremely low profile. You are able to wear it under another t-shirt, button up shirt or other cover garment, and you can wear armor under it also. Where the witchcraft comes from is the magnetic sleeve that goes in front of everything. This allows you to attach modular gear to any rack or carrier with rare earth magnets sewn into the webbing.  One significant advantage to this is that you can have gear stowed out of sight in a vehicle or elsewhere, then when it is needed just grab it up and slap it to your chest without dealing with straps or buckles. It will attach right through your clothing. These are definitely not your mother's fridge magnets.

They only had the three AR mag holders on display at the booth but they are definitely going to be doing a bunch more for different configurations. A couple other significant items on display were a harness systems that Ian had on and the Troy PDW resting up under his arm. This is a collaboration between Troy Industries and HTC. Troy designed the harness with HTC working on the mold for the rifle. The lower fits exactly like a pistol and its kydex holster. Think of James Bond reaching into his finely tailored suit and pulling out not a Walther PPK but a Troy PDW.

The harness is still in the R&D phase They're still working on the locking system. It is ambidextrous with a provision for additional magazines on the support side and it will attach to the wearer's belt like suspenders. Deployment of the weapon isn't difficult. The single point sling comes off the harness, attaching to the stock of the PDW. You can grab the rifle's grip, depress the butt stock release with your thumb and extend the stock as you present the weapon. It's simpler to do than describe in writing.

What is the NSSF SHOT Show?

The NSSF SHOT Show (Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade Show) and Conference is an annual event held by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. Typically attended by thousands of people from all 50 states and over a hundred countries, it is (quite rightfully) described as the “…world's premier exposition of combined firearms, ammunition, law enforcement, cutlery, outdoor apparel, optics, and related products and services.
Imagine the Worlds' Fair, but packed with everything from mini-guns and every breed of body armor, bows and boots; from eye pro and ear pro to optics and ordnance, socks to swords…you get the idea. If you'd like to see a sampling of the companies who will be showing at this year's SHOT, there's a live map right here, though it doesn't reflect the organizations set up elsewhere, in hotel suites, etc.
