Outta the Closet: Grey Ghost Gear Attleboro Knife

This handsome fellow is one of a limited run of engraved Grey Ghost Gear Attleboro knives by the eponymous Attleboro Knives. This Idaho based company is comprised of US Army SF veterans and outdoor enthusiasts. The fixed blade was named for the father of designer Ken Hunt, Master Sergeant William B. Hunt (US Army Special Forces). MSG Hunt was declared Missing In Action November 1966 during Operation Attleboro.

The Attleboro is 100% American made of CPM S35VN, .150 in. thick to reduce weight and bulk and cryogenically treated. It's 55-57Rc to maintain flexibility and edge retention, comes with angled serrations on the right side to reduce snagging when cutting rope or webbing and has a beveled glass breaker on the butt of the handle, which itself is skeletonized for weight reduction.

It's obvious a lot of thought went into designing the knife, from the gimping on the spine for grip (not the same kind of gimp from Pulp Fiction) to the CNC machined hollow grind, aggressively swedged spear point to the black phenolic canvas laminated handle. The blade is coated with H-146 graphite black Cerakote and there's a thumb ramp for indexing.

This thing is light and has a superb grip. A percentage of each sale goes to the Green Beret Foundation, and each knife comes with a commemorative coin from the MSG William B. Hunt XXV Special Forces Association Chapter headquartered in Spokane.

The initial run of Grey Ghost Attleboros is long since gone, but they are apparently considering another batch. You can also find them on other websites (though last time we looked Gem-Tech was also sold out).
