Preview – SHTF ITS Tactical ETA Trauma Kit

Like all tactical equipment, first aid and medical kits continue to evolve into smaller, lighter, and more efficient platforms. Kits designed for specific applications now contain field-tested components that greatly increase a wounded individual’s survivability. But, how is an average person to know what is right for them? Moreover, where does one draw the fine line between too much and not enough?

Enter the ITS Tactical ETA Trauma Kit. ITS (Imminent Threat Solutions) created an 18D, U.S. Army Special Forces Medic– designed, medical kit that provides an individual with the basic supplies necessary to aid in stabilizing the victim of a gunshot wound, laceration, shrapnel wound, or minor joint injury. Generically referred to as a “blowout kit,” military personnel and first responders frequently outfit themselves with basic medical supplies they or a trained medical professional can use to rapidly treat a wound. The ETA kit (Standard) provides both basic bandages and more advanced, wound-treatment supplies. Specifically, the kit aims to address the three leading preventable causes of death in the field: Extremity Hemorrhage, 60%, Tension Pneumothorax, 33% and Airway Obstruction, 6%. Though I am trained in basic and field first aid, there were some unfamiliar components in the ETA’s tightly vacuum-sealed kit. I consulted my local surgeon, my wife, Jill, for a breakdown of the supplies and divided them into basic and advanced components.
