Saturday Night Knife Porn: Rat Worx MRX Automatic Chain Knife

Have you heard of a chain drive knife before? Well, Rat Worx has built one.

Rat Worx (Research and Testing WORX, Inc.) is known in the industry as a class II firearms manufacturer. Their focus has primarily been as an OEM manufacturer of gun parts for the IWI Tavor, Steyr AUG and others.

After spending three and half years in design, Rat Worx has released their patented automatic knife, the MRX, which is operated by a miniature roller chain driven by dual nested right and left hand extension springs.

“We have spent countless hours testing the durability of the MRX,” said Allen Millhouse, co-founder of Rat Worx. “In one test, we opened and closed the automatic blade 418,000 times before we could get it to fail.”

The MRX chain driven mechanism is supported by ceramic-coated roller bearings that are suspended in a urethane matrix. That matrix is impregnated with aluminum disulfide for self-lubricating operation. This provides an ultra smooth reliable operation that was tested to 40-million cycles before testing was stopped.

The 3.650” blade is made from 154 CPM steel that is machine ground using a bull nose end mill. The plunger button lock mechanism is stainless steel and the body is currently made of 6061 aluminum. Rat Worx will soon be offering other body types such as carbon fiber and titanium as well as custom made models.
