The Anschütz MSR RX22 arrived – did you catch it?

Billed as a “tactical trainer” and “small game hunter,” the Anschütz MSR RX22 semi-auto .22LR from Anschütz Sporting Arms recently arrived in the U.S. in large numbers thanks to Steyr Arms, the rifle's exclusive importer. Four models of MSR RX22 were in that shipment – the Desert and Black Hawk models and the Precision and Precision Black models.

The MSR RX22 features a target barrel and “competition-inspired trigger,” described by Anschütz as a “…full-featured, precision .22-caliber training and small-game hunting rifle. Anschütz Sporting Arms (J.G. Anschütz GmbH & Co. KG) has built gold-winning competition rifles for years now (you may have seen pictures of them in the hands of the US Olympic Team).

According to the manufacturer, the ambidextrous MSR RX22 was developed from the beginning to be an “…extremely accurate semi-automatic .22-cal. rifle with excellent shooting performance that is suitable for the intense requirements of most shooting disciplines as well as semi-auto precision shooting.” It operates on a force-locking blowback action with hammer lock and features barrels manufactured to the same tolerances as the builder's target barrels. The 16.5″ button-rifled barrels feature a recessed target crown; the trigger comes from the factory set at 4 lbs. but can be adjusted from 3.3 to 5.5 lbs. by the user. The charging handle can be moved to any one of three positions on either side of the rifle for a total of 6 possible locations.

A few quick details about the four models: Desert and Black Hawk each feature a side-folding collapsible stock for length of pull and adjustable for cheek weld and are equipped with Pic rails on the side and bottom of the foreend. The Precision and Precision Black models have fixed wooden stocks and foreend components. All models feature full-length Picatinny rail on top for mounting (included_) flip-up iron sights or optics.

The MSR RX22 will come with one 10-round polymer detachable single-stack magazine. Magazines with capacities of 2, 5, 20 and 22 rounds are also available as accessory items. MSRP on the Desert and Black Hawk is $895. The Precision models are $995.
