Here's an interesting piece of kit that looks to have a wide variety of applications — the AmmoPal (@ammopal). It's like a Pez dispenser for shot shells. Sure, the name might leave a little to be desired (apparently Browning didn't care for their initial attempts to use Boss, which is too bad and more than a little shitty). Hey, at least they didn't throw “Tactical” in front of it and call it something melodramatically dynamic or strategic or disruptive or kinetic or attacktically slaughterific. Note that this is not a magazine per se, which in some places could be an important distinction. It does not attached to a weapon. Rather it acts as a rigid ammo pouch that holds 10 rounds.
Now some 2 years in the making, the AmmoBoss AmmoPal is described as a “…customizable mounting system and patent pending ambidextrous retention system.” It definitely looks to be convenient and fast (as the website says) though I have difficulty seeing how it will increase accuracy (which it also claims).
Here's a look at it in action.
Rugged 9 1/4″ x 3″ x 11/2″ polymer body holds ten 2 3/4″ 12-guage shotgun shells
Patent-pending retention fingers keep your shells secure (even upside-down) and flex to release a shell when you need one.
Made of high-impact Geon PVC: UV-resistant, oil-resistant, flame-resistant to withstand virtually anything you throw at it.
Ambidextrous design allows for right or left-handed operation.
Large thumb sweep area accommodates gloved operation.
Durable spring made of the same material used in USGI rifle magazines.
Removable base plate with drain slot allows easy access to spring and follower for cleaning and maintenance.
Exclusive, adjustable mounting system features two sets of dual mounting clips (1 long; 1 short) and can be used together or independently. The clips are removable and can be adjusted into over a dozen configurations to mount almost anywhere.
Made in the U.S.A. means top quality you can depend on.
The only options available thus far are black in color, but there's a provision on the website for a dropdown menu and there are pictures of a green and tan version, so presumably they'll eventually be offering some options.
You can pre-order one online here. They're just $39.95. Evidently they'll be available after the first week of April.
If I buy one I'm having BOSS lasered on it.
Scratch that, I went ahead and bought one. I want to see how it works and we need to support innovative small business anyway.
