Sage Dynamics is reporting that the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence has filed a lawsuit against four online retailers for selling ammunition, body armor and tear gas canisters to John Holmes (the suspect in the Aurora, CO theater killings). Apparently the Brady Campaign believes the provider of an implement is responsible for how it is ultimately used.
Says Jonathan Lowy, director of the Brady Center's Legal Action Project,
“A crazed, homicidal killer should not be able to amass a military arsenal, without showing his face or answering a single question, with the simple click of a mouse. If businesses choose to sell military-grade equipment online, they must screen purchasers to prevent arming people like James Holmes. Sandy and Lonnie Phillips have brought this lawsuit to make sellers of lethal arms and military equipment use reasonable care. ”
Because, you know, it's the retailers fault how it's used. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Sandy and Lonnie Phillips, parents of Jessica Ghawi, who was murdered in the attack.
No word yet if the Brady Campaign is also going to file suit against whomever sold the 9/11 hijackers their box-cutters, Michael Moore his ice cream spoon and all the auto manufacturers who sold cars to about 10,000 people.
