Mail call Monday and this time its got some reach. MDT (Modular Driven Technologies) as been making some awesome and affordable chassis systems for a few years now. You might even recognize their stocks on some of Mossbergs offerings. I was able to grab the HS3 Chassis, 10 Round Polymer Magazine and their Skeleton Rifle Stock.
I have had a couple outings with my Remington 700 SPS Tactical in 308 dressed up in the HS3 Chassis so far. My groups tightened up noticeably compared to the Hogue it once wore. The only thing I wish is that the magazine release was a tiny bit longer. Occasionally when I went to pull the magazine out I had to squish my finger up to get the release pushed forward. This was really only a issue when wearing gloves.
The HS3 can handle one hell of a thick barrel too, up to the size of the action. Even with my heavy barrel there is no chance of any touching where it shouldn't. Unlike the LSS from MDT the HS3 is designed for fixed AR stocks.
When shooting from the standing I use the pill shaped holes on the side of the stock to get extra purchase.
The MDT Polymer Magazines comes in .223 or .308 with the option of Black or FDE. The ten round size is a great combination of carrying capacity and size.
The only thing I noticed with the 10 round magazine is at full capacity it will bulge slightly and be stiffer to insert in the chassis (they mention this on the website).
The Skeleton Stock V3 is designed to be used with any rifle that has a AR pattern fixed buttstock that doesn't require a buffer and spring. The adjustment of the cheek piece ensures for proper cheekweld when using scopes with different height scope mounts and rings,m. The recoil pad adjusts back and up or down for appropriate distance from your scope. I use this feature the most when I am switching positions.
At first I was leery of how sturdy the stock would be. After shooting a couple hundred rounds from my rifle I can say its a solid design. In the full review I will talk about one of my favorite things to do with the skeletonized stock — stand by for that in a couple of months.
When I get some more time in with these parts in a few months you can expect a full review. So far I am really happy with the results of my build. The MDT parts added lots of functionality and were well executed. I have had previous experience with their Tac21 and LSS so I knew I was in for some great gear. MDT also offers quite a few action options for their various chassis and are adding more all the time.
