There are 2 versions of the “Grey Ghost Precision” Specter Series – the heavy (.308) and the light (5.56). They the first “whole” rifles built by Mega Arms. GGP says:
“It started with the proverbial “list on a napkin”. There are a number of AR platforms out there, in both .308 and 5.56, some good, some bad – but none were exactly what we wanted…The final Specter configurations were a reflection of who we are and what we’d want to take into a fight.”
The Grey Ghost Precision press release advises the following:
The proprietary receivers for the Specter rifles are built from a base of 7075-T651 billet. After being cut, they are then True Black Type III hard anodized to military specifications for a durable rich black color with a surface hardness of 60 Rockwell. The forends are fourteen inch extended Mega MKM KeyMod handguards, with M-LOK versions available in the future. Each forend is hand fitted to every upper receiver using Mega Arm’s custom lockup system, which is stronger than standard barrel attachment.
The heart of any rifle is the barrel and the Grey Ghost Precision Specter rifles are no exception. They sport medium weight sixteen inch 416 stainless steel barrels with 11 degree target crowns, topped with modified Gemtech Jake Brakes developed by AM-TAC Precision for minimizing any muzzle climb. They are Black Nitrided in and out for superior corrosion resistance without any negative effect on accuracy. Midlength gas systems are used for a smooth recoil impulse and faster follow-up shots if required. The Specter Light is a 1/8 twist and threaded ½-28 and the Specter Heavy is a 1/10 twist and threaded 5/8-24.
The bolts are high pressure tested and then magnetic particle inspected, feature enhanced extractors, and are manufactured from case hardened 9310. The gas key is properly staked and sealed to ensure a positive gas seal for years to come.
The lower receivers feature ambidextrous bolt releases and BAD-CASS selectors to minimize reload time and to be left hand friendly. Each Specter Light comes equipped with enhanced takedown and pivot pins directly from the factory. The triggers are an incredibly smooth 4.5 pounds and single stage for a custom feel. Each Specter rifle comes with a mil-spec six position receiver extension properly staked in place, complete with a Magpul ACS stock with an appropriate buffer weight for the rifles caliber and configuration. The pistol grips are Magpul MOE+ for control in all environments and accept optional storage cores.
The Grey Ghost Precision Specter rifles are specifically balanced slightly to the rear. This helps to assuage any front-heavy balance once the rifle is fully dressed with optics and other needed accoutrement.
There is no official website yet – those interested are advised to monitor the Grey Ghost Gear website and Facebook page, as well as the Grey Ghost Precision Instagram account (which is just a few days old now).
