Gen 2 KS47 Announced By Palmetto State Armory

If an AR-15 in 7.62×39 excites you, then the news of the new Gen 2 KS47 from Palmetto State Armory should catch your attention. The AK mag fed platform has recently been improved over the earlier Gen 1 KS47 while retaining compatibility.

Currently, Palmetto State Armory is offering the Gen 2 KS47 in four configurations, two rifles, and two pistols.

Starting with the top of the line Gen 2 KS47 with 16″ barrel, they have fitted an MOE stock, MOE pistol grip, enhanced EPT trigger group, and an M-LOK compatible handguard. This configuration will set you back $919.99 MSRP, but the rifle is on sale currently for $699.99.

If a more value priced option is what you are looking for, the classic Gen 2 KS47 with 16″ barrel is priced $100 cheaper than the top of the line model at $599.99 on sale. Instead of all the nice things you get on the top of the line rifle, this one has a fixed front sight post, mil-spec trigger, and mil-spec furniture. Functional, but I like my M-Lok.

If you happen to miss the sale, the MSRP of this configuration is $799.99.

As one would expect, PSA also offers versions with pistol braces installed like the premium Gen 2 KS47 pistol with an SBA3 SB Tactical brace. Both configurations of the pistol sport 10.5″ barrels with carbine length gas systems.

In addition to the SBA3 brace, the premium pistol also has a 9″ lightweight M-LOK compatible handguard, Magpul MOE grip, and PSA's enhanced EPT trigger. MSRP for the premium pistol comes in at $949.99, but again, Palmetto has them on sale currently for $699.99.

The classic model Gen 2 KS47 pistol is kitted out much the same as the classic model rifle with the exception of the Shockwave Blade stabilizer instead of the M4 stock found on the rifle. Like before, the classic pistol has a 10.5″ 1:10 twist barrel, an A2 style flash hider, A2 grip, and mil-spec trigger group.

The classic pistol will set you back $809.99 MSRP if you miss the sale on them currently where the pistol is priced at $599.99.

So what changes did Palmetto State Armory make to the KS47 that they felt the Gen 2 KS47 was needed?

A heavy buffer was used with a stiffer AR-10 buffer spring. PSA says this should improve feeding in less than ideal conditions. 

Palmetto also reprofiled two of the bolt lugs to prevent any damage to magazine feed lips.

Also to protect the magazine, PSA added two magazine stops into the upper that prevent over insertion as well as keeping the mag from creeping up into the bolt's path.

The new feedramp is much more reminiscent of the AK's large single feedramp. This should improve reliability with a wider range of magazines.

Palmetto State Armory does warn in the below video that some aftermarket trigger that is designed as a self-contained unit like the CMC trigger, Velocity, Rise Armament, and others, may have fitment issues due to the magazine catch spring. PSA does say that if you stick with a more traditional trigger like a Geissele or non-self contained unit, you will be fine.
