At SHOT Show there is a vast amount of stuff to see on the floor. What some people may not realize is how much business is conducted in suites away from the convention proper. Sometimes this is for privacy's sake, other times due to booth space restrictions. Occasionally it's likely just to avoid the thronging hordes of locust-like, camo bag carrying swag collectors.
Whatever the reason, one of the companies that does this is Grey Ghost Gear. They invited us up to their suite in the Venetian to see what's coming down the pipeline in November, some of it so new their names were still being hashed out while we were there.
First of the new things we got to check out was the Draugr system. Tentatively named for an old Norse undead creature, this system has more features then we can easily list. What you see in this and the cover photo above is a plate carrier. They decided a standard plate carrier is just boring, so why not add some versatility to it? The result of this musing was a low profile carrier with the ability to be “built up” for mission needs.
The whole system scales up and adds even more functionality when using assorted cummerbunds and attachment methods. We'll have a much fuller list of features (and more pictures) closer to the release date.
From one form of protection to another, Grey Ghost has another yet-to-be-named piece of kit on the horizon; it's a helmet cover, and we were able to check out the prototype. The coffin shape on top actually has the ability to run cables beneath, while still allowing virtually all popular strobe models room to attach to the top.
The rear of the helmet opens to accept batteries for use as a counterweight, but stows flat when not needed.
Last but not least is the SDGT Sling. This thing is seriously light but functional. Made of hypalon and tweave, they've tested it to hold up to 100 pounds.
If that wasn't enough new things, the rumour on the street is [note: he means rumor; he's Canadian] Grey Ghost is invading Canada with plans to open GG gear up to the global market. ITAR can be a thorn in the side, so they've decided to make some adjustments. When that gets closer to launch we will have more information for you guys.
In the meantime you can learn more on their website.
This has been a special SHOT Show installment of Industry News. It is not a review nor an endorsement.
The NSSF SHOT Show (Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade Show) and Conference is an annual event held by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. Typically attended by thousands of people from all 50 states and over a hundred countries, it is (quite rightfully) described as the “…world's premier exposition of combined firearms, ammunition, law enforcement, cutlery, outdoor apparel, optics, and related products and services.
Imagine the Worlds' Fair, but packed with everything from mini-guns and every breed of body armor, bows and boots; from eye pro and ear pro to optics and ordnance, socks to swords…you get the idea. If you'd like to see a sampling of the companies who will be showing at this year's SHOT, there's a live map right here, though it doesn't reflect the organizations set up elsewhere, in hotel suites, etc
View imagery from our coverage of last year's SHOT Show here; 2015's is right here.
