Hands-On with the New B5 Systems Precision Stock

If you know B5 Systems, then you probably associate them with their Enhanced SOPMOD and Bravo buttstocks. And indeed, what we're looking at today is also a buttstock, but quite different. A week ago Soldier Systems Daily reported on the B5 Systems Precision Stock being premiered at the USASOC Sniper Competition.

Of course we couldn't wait to get our grubbies on one.

We'll first address the elephant in the room: what advantages does this have over the popular Magpul PRS stock? At a glance, you can see many similarities. The biggest standout to us was while both have toolless cheek piece and length of pull adjustments, the B5 Precision Stock also is capable of gross LOP adjustment via a standard carbine or A5 receiver extension giving it a lot of flexibility.

It can even be installed on a LAW Tactical folder to really cut down on the size for transport.

Though on the surface the stock looks large(ish), here's a size comparison with the Precision Stock and a Bravo stock:

Normal receiver extensions can be subject to slop, especially over time. We were curious when we learned about internal tensioners to keep everything solid. You can feel the receiver extension clicking along each side of tensioners when you install, and here's what they look like:

The tensioners are what we'll be keeping our eye on as we put more rounds through the rifle. During our initial range session all adjustments were locked damn solid–so here's for hoping it stays that way over time.

There will be two versions of the B5 Systems Precision Stock; one for 7.62-size receivers and another for a traditional 5.56. It's not as if the 7.62 version needs to be more heavy duty. In fact, it's a little bit of the opposite since the cheekpiece of the 7.62 version needed to be truncated to allow for the charging handle to be pulled.

The B5 Systems Precision Stock also comes with two M-Lok slots on the base for a monopod (if you're into that kind of thing), two limited rotation QD mounts, and two fixed sling mounts.
