In preparation for CARNIVORE 2 hitting stands on August 24th, we're featuring hunters who share our passion for everything that leads up to putting food on the table. We welcome the hard work, accept and learn from errors, and then rejoice when we connect and put game in the freezer. If you're interested in being featured in this Hunter Spotlight series, please email news@recoilnews.com.
RECOIL: Tell us about your first hunt.
CB: Dad took me to Catoosa Wildlife Management Area in East Tennessee when I was a little kid. I don’t think dad a owned a traditional “hunting rifle” so we sat quietly in the woods, in full Army camo with an HK 91 rifle. I knew we had a mission and he was the coolest dad ever.
RECOIL: What was your favorite hunt and why?
CB: Like so many hunters, Africa changed my life or at least my perspective of hunting. The abundance of game, the endless plains, the sunsets, the people. The hunting tested skills I do not get use at home; spotting, long distance stalks, shooting over tall grass supported by sticks.
Nothing is wasted in Africa and we enjoyed what we killed at the dinner table every night. The people I met there and the friends I shared the experience with will never be forgotten.
RECOIL: What is the one piece of gear is your “must-need” for every hunt (other than your weapon)?
CB: Swarovski Binos! Animals have far-superior detection capabilities. I will never hunt without my binoculars.
RECOIL: Is there anything else you would like included, i.e. public lands, types of hunting, etc… or anything you're passionate about?
CB: I own a beautiful piece of land at home in Tennessee. Protecting and improving the habitat there is one of the most rewarding things I get to do. I’m very proud of the place and it makes my happy to see friends and family enjoy it. On top of all that, it is my own private proving grounds for the rifles we develop at Barrett. Or couldn’t get much better.
