Raven Concealment Systems recently released their new VanGard II Advanced holster, and among the pictures quickly shared around (specifically by Aimpoint, Inc.) were these.
If that looks like an optic mount, that's ‘cuz it is. Aimpoint says,
“New micro mount from Raven Concealment Systems with the assistance of Aimpoint friend, Matt Jacques, Victory First. No milling or gunsmithing to slide required. Coming soon.”
So…does this mean they've built a mount that solves the stability and durability issues with a dovetail only? Is everyone involved confident the optics will withstand all the Gs and trauma of slamming back and forth while directly mounted to that slide?
We shall soon see — as soon as they're available we'll go out and shoot the hell out of them both and see how it goes. There are certainly many shooters who'd rather have the big, baleful cyclops eye of full size T-1 on top of their blaster in lieu of something like an RMR, Delta Point or Dr. Optic without having to use the Han Solo mount. While there are other dovetail mounts for Aimpoint Micros, the draw to this one appears to be the integral back-up iron sights (BUIS). From all the pictures we've seen so far, the RCS looks like a 2-piece design with the rear sight attached via the Glock rear slide back plate.
Think it'll kill a Micro? Will it add unacceptable mass to the weapon? How will it compare to the Dueck Defense RBU? Certainly several dudes who really know their business have been shooting the RCS mount (we don't yet know name and nomenclature) for some time now and seem to think it's good to go, but until they're commercially available we'll just have to speculate.
Stand by for further.
