In this installment of Full Auto Friday, we revisit a classic platform, the HKMP5. This cousin to the MP5, the SD, is a suppressed version of one of the most popular subguns in the marketplace, and we were impressed, to say the least.
HK developed this reflex style suppressor, meaning it goes over the barrel of the gun, specifically for this gun. The barrel on the MP5SD is only about six inches long and is ported, which gives you the maximum degree of sound suppression by reducing the velocity of standard pressure ammunition. Impressively, you can put pretty much any ammunition in this thing, and it will remain subsonic. Created specifically for special operations environments, and utilized by military and law enforcement, this gun epitomizes what a suppressed platform should be. Ear protection? You won’t need it. The MP5SD is extremely quiet, even when unleashing all the pews in its magazine. Will Editor-in-Chief, Iain Harrison, be able to still his beating heart when bringing this version to the range? Check out this episode of Full Auto Friday to find out!
