In this installment of Training Tuneups, Dan Brokos of Lead Faucet Tactical takes us through the Around the World Drill– carbine edition.
When it comes to shooting, speed and precision are the ultimate goals for any accomplished shooter. Whether on the range, in military or LE scenarios, or even in competition shooting, quick, precise shots are required for success, and no matter what discipline of shooting you are involved in, it is important to remember that you’re your skills are perishable. Shooters can enhance their time at the range and test their abilities by running drills. Shooting drills are designed to help us keep our skills and fundamentals sharp so that when we need to apply them, even in sudden or uncomfortable situations, we can do so effectively. The Around the World Drill is a good test of both speed and trigger manipulation.
In order to perform this drill, you will need a paper target that has 12 3-inch circles. When the timer begins, you will place two shots each into all twelve of the circles with two goals in mind. First, you must complete this drill as quickly as possible, preferably in less than 13 seconds. Secondly, you must not place any shots outside of the circles. For each shot placed outside of the intended area, a one-second penalty will be added to your overall time.
Dan successfully places all 24 shots inside their intended circles in 10.92 seconds, which even includes a mag change. Can you beat Dan’s time and award yourself the coveted Learjet home, or will you be hitching a ride on a hot air balloon? The next time you head to the range, give this drill a try and let us know how your skills stack up. For more ways to enhance your firearms training, check out RECOILtv.
