“Go ahead, pick it up.” Those are the words that repeatedly rang out, as dozens of people stopped at the Roam Rifles booth to check out the rifle that claimed to weigh less than 6 pounds. Everyone obliged and then smiled with delight as they realized that the R-10 Red River Ultralight did, in fact, weigh less than 6 pounds. But how? Well, that's the fun part!
The Roam R-10 is an AR-style rifle that utilizes special magnesium alloys. Here are some facts about those special magnesium alloys, straight from the Roam Rifles website:
The Roam R-10 is available in either .308 Winchester or 6.5 Creedmoor, depending on the model. The Roam R-10 is built as an SR25/DPMS variant, and comes standard with a Cerakote® finish and premium components. The R-10 is available in Black or Flat Dark Earth, and comes with different options for the barrel, gas system, handguard, trigger, muzzle device, stock, and overall length. While only the Red River Ultralight weighs less than 6 pounds, the Great Plains, which is the heaviest model still only weighs 7.28 pounds. The cost of the Roam R-10 starts at $2,349.
