Shooting Sports Showcase 2021: On the Range with DRD Tactical and the Sig Sauer

On the unknown distance range, portable rifles with long-range accuracy impressed attendees. As media and attendees made their way up the wooden staircase to the first elevated platform, they were advised to stand out of the way. DRD Tactical’s 338 Lapua Magum Kivaari, equipped with a four-port muzzle brake, has a special way of greeting new arrivals.

As a result, the Kivaari boasts relatively mild recoil. The semi-automatic gas operated rifle has a 24-inch 1/10 twist barrel and a 17-inch QD rail with Magpul M-lok for accessory mounting. A Magpul PRS fully adjustable stock and ambidextrous safety and bolt catch renders it extremely adjustable.  Designed with accuracy and portability in mind, the Kivaari utilizes patented quick takedown rifle technology and is employable in less than 60 seconds. Made in the USA, it stores in a backpack or hard case and weighs 13.6 pounds empty.

Sig Sauer brought their Cross Rifle, a precision bolt-action rifle designed for hunting. Chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor and paired with Sig’s BDX technology and elite performance ammunition, accurate shots were easy to make. The Cross rifle’s portability amazes. It weighs a mere 6.5 pounds and features a folding precision-style stock. This stock incorporates the bolt, locking it in place and keeping it from moving during transport. Adjustability is also simple with Sig Sauer’s first bolt action rifle. Stock adjustment for length of pull and comb height requires no tools. The Cross is also available in 308 Winchester and 277 Fury with barrel length ranging from 16 to 18 inches depending upon the caliber selected.

Both of these American-made offerings designed with precision and portability in mind recognize the desires of the long-range competitor and needs of the backcountry hunter.
