If you're one of those using a 28-gauge shotgun, you'll likely be interested in the latest news from Winchester Ammunition. The East Alton, IL based company recently announced the release of a couple of new loadings in their Super X line, one of which includes 28-gauge for 2016.
Here’s what we know.
The light weight, mild recoil and smaller size of the 28-gauge shotgun makes it an increasingly popular option for upland hunters, whether busting roosters in tight cover or swinging smooth on a covey of quail. For these hunters, Winchester Ammunition is expanding its long-running Super X line of shotshells to include two new loadings in 28 gauge for 2016.
Both new 28-gauge loads will be chambered as a 2¾-inch round with 3/4 ounces of either No. 5 or No. 6 shot. Both loads will deliver speeds of 1,295 feet per second, yet will operate as a reduced recoil load, perfect for those shooters who prefer the lighter recoil and easy handling characteristics of this classic gauge.
“The Winchester Super X line of ammunition is one of the most recognized brands on store shelves, and no doubt these new offerings will be a welcome addition to the line for those upland hunters who are rediscovering the fun and challenge of hunting with the diminutive 28 gauge,” said Brett Flaugher, Winchester Ammunition vice president of marketing, sales and strategy.
