We're told the Tac-tops Karambit was designed with members of “elite” units in mind. It certainly is a vicious knife to look at, with an enlarged finger hole to provide maximum grip when using with various types of gloves.
Says TOPS,
This is not your starter Karambit! Designer Colin Despins (Max Venom Product Group) has created ye another weapon that is both stylish and deadly. It was designed for a member of a Highly Elite Unit with specific needs. The oversized finger hole is vital since this operator uses glove of different varieties based on location and climate. Its length provides a reach that is unprecedented by other Karambits, but still allows for close quarters fighting. The strike face on the spine of the knife and another on the end of the finger hole give multiple options when striking and opponent.
Tac-Tops Karambit specifications:
Overall length: 11.25 inches
Blade length: 7.13 inches with a cutting edge of 5.75 inches
Knife weight (without kydex sheath): 10 ounces
Knife weight (with kydex sheath): 14.5 ounces
Blade steel: black traction coated 1095 carbon tool steel
Blade thickness: nineteen hundredths of an inch (.19)
Scale/handle: made with black canvas micarta with red liners.
The finger hole is enlarged to allow compatibility with glove of various type, and on the spine of the knife we can see designer Colin Despins signature strike face, allowing use of the spine on the attack as well.
Topsknives.com goes on to tell us:
Its length provides a reach that is unprecedented by other Karambits, but still allows for close quarters fighting. There is a devastating skull crushing pommel on the end of the finger hole. The strike face on the spine is C Despin’s signature of sorts as it’s found on the HKT and Back Bite as well. The handle was designed to fit most hands in forward or reverse grips and with or without using the finger hole. This is a serious tool for the serious operator.
Despins custom-made versions can be purchased from Max Venom Product Group's website here.
