Vetrepreneurs: Notch Gear

Published by

“The war between your sunglasses and hat is over.” That is the premise from which Notch Gear was born. Founded by a US Marine, Notch hats solve a problem that Paul Cunningham was fed up with. When Paul could not wear traditional hats with the Oakley sunglasses he preferred, he would have to pick one over the other. Adapt and overcome, right? It may seem like a non-issue, but if you like sunglasses and hats, then you know the struggle.

Notch Gear’s patented design consists of accommodating areas along the hat’s brim to provide space for glasses. Makes you think you'd thought of it, don't it? Notch has been successful in reaching several different markets from shooting, golf, fishing, hunting, LE/mil, and even ARCA racing. They manufacture a variety of hats that appeal to pretty much anyone who would wear a hat.

Paul served 4 years in the Marine Corps as an Air Traffic Controller, stationed at MCAS Yuma. He stayed in Yuma, AZ after separating from the Marine Corps in 1992; and Notch Gear is based in Yuma. Notch also cares about giving. For every hat you buy, 5 meals are provided to children in need through Notch’s partner, Children’s Hunger Fund.

Note – this was supposed to run last Wednesday with the other Vetrepreneur articles. Unfortunately I scheduled it for 11 NOV 16 (a ways off) and just caught that. Apologies to Notch Gear and to Ms. Horner! (DR, Web Editor)
