War Sport Industries at SHOT

No, you can't buy just the rail. This piece actually isn't about the ever-popular War Sport LVOA flagship series of AR's, but of their other works – and maybe an Easter Egg or two. War Sport Industries has gained quite the following over the last few years and it doesn't take a genius to figure out why.

The War Sport GPR is a no-frills and no-muss carbine. It sports a 14.7″ 1/8 twist QPQ melonited barrel and has a .223 wylde chamber. This barrel configuration allows for a wide array of ammunition; it could be argued that 1/8 should be the more common twist rate instead of mostly being considered a niche for precision guns. The distinctive B5 Systems polymer KeyMod handguard is present as well as a B5 SOPMOD Bravo stock. The War Sport GPR also includes the ALG ACT trigger. Battle Arms Development selector switch and takedown pins, and their in-house GP Compensator and bolt release. The muzzle device is pinned and welded to bring it to legal length.

Next up is the War Sport GPR-E. Admittedly this is the one that I was most interested in. While the LVOA is no doubt a pretty badass rifle, the inability to run most suppressors with their rail system has always been in the back of my mind. I'll start with yes, the muzzle device is pinned, and follow up with saying that it is far from an insurmountable issue.

The MkIII rail system doesn't shroud the muzzle

Let's start with the lower. Norgon ambidextrous ambi catch, Battle Arms Development selector and takedown pins, War Sport bolt release, Geissele SSA trigger.

The B5 Systems stock on this example had a muted blue (blue steel?) tone that had just the right amount of flare. The War Sport marked AXTS Raptor is a nice touch.

The GPR-E rail system is well vented and has threaded holes at regular intervals for directly attaching rails or other accessories.

Wait–what's that red thing?

This particular GPR-E was sporting something brand new to B5 – the GripStop. The improved B5 version has more rounded curves for increased comfort and comes in two sizes (standard and K). It also includes hardware for direct-attach (as seen above), KeyMod, and MLOK forend systems. Shipping begins in February. Word is that a picatinny version is in the works. The red GripStop is a SHOT Show exclusive. Here's to hoping B5 releases one in the future in the same hue as that SOPMOD (nudge nudge).

Okay okay, we'll also show a picture of this guy:
