Law enforcement officials have identified YouTube shooter Nasim Aghdam of San Diego, California following the shooting at the YouTube headquarters in San Bruno, California. As is often the case with stories that are being reported on as they develop, preliminary reports from law enforcement officials that this was a domestic issue turned shooting appear to have been incorrect.
Aghdam was reported as missing on Monday by her father Ismail Aghdam who told police that she may be heading to YouTube because she hated the company. Shahran Aghsam, the shooter's brother, told reporters from Mercury News that “she was always complaining that YouTube ruined her life.”
Police located Aghdam at 2 am Tuesday in a Mountian View parking lot more than 500 miles from her home in San Diego. Mountian View police called her family who gave no indication to law enforcement that Aghdam might be violent.
In a Facebook post, the Mountain View Police Department stated, “During that call, we spoke with both the woman’s father and her brother. The father confirmed to us that the family had been having issues at home, but did not act in any way concerned about why his daughter had left,” police said in a news release Wednesday. “At no point during that conversation did either Aghdam’s father or brother make any statements regarding the woman’s potential threat to, or a possible attack on, the YouTube campus.”
San Bruno Police Chief Ed Barberini stated that Police believe Aghdam’s feelings of persecution regarding YouTube policy changes are likely the motive for the shooting. Chief Barberini also said that Aghdam visited a local gun range the morning before the shooting, and entered the YouTube building through a parking garage.
The Smith and Wesson 9mm semi-automatic she used to shoot three YouTube staffers and then herself was purchased legally, according to Cheif Barberini. Law enforcement officials have search warrants issued for two residences believed to be associated with Aghdam and are combing through her numerous social media posts.
Three victims are known at this time, a 36-year-old man in critical condition, a 32-year-old woman in serious condition and a 27-year-old woman in fair condition according to a spokesman for San Francisco General Hospital. Aghdam died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and reportedly did not have a specific target or know any of the victims according to a statement from Cheif Barberini.
Since the initial reports, a website has been discovered that appears to belong to Aghdam with links pointing to a Facebook account, two Instagram accounts, and five YouTube channels. All of the accounts have been suspended at the time this update is being written but there are screenshots on the website that indicate that Aghdam had several thousand YouTube followers as well as over 50k Instagram followers.
The website is riddled with statements and at least one screenshot that indicates anger towards YouTube due to the change in the YouTube Partner program that was rolled out February this year requiring channels to have more than 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours of content watched before being eligible to earn ad dollars with the Partner program.
A video of Aghdam surfaced on Facebook where she claims that she was being discriminated against by YouTube and that her content was being “filtered” by placing an age restriction a video of her ab workout. Aghdam claims that when she contacted the YouTube Support Team who informed her that there were “there are some inappropriate things in your videos.” Aghdam goes on to state “this is what they are doing to vegan activists and many other people who try to promote healthy, humane, and smart living.”

The San Bruno Police Cheif, Ed Barberini stated to Fox News that they are currently investigating Aghdam's anger at YouTube.
An active shooter has been reported in the YouTube headquarters according to multiple sources, including the San Bruno Police Department. Preliminary reports from the police indicate that the shooting is likely a result of a domestic situation.
KTVU is reporting that the shooter was female was found in a room with the most seriously injured victim by police. A separate report from that stated that the shooter was female and wearing a dark shirt and scarf. Fox News is reporting that the female shooter is dead as the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the time that this post was written.
Another news station in the area is reporting that two females, one is 27-years old listed in fair condition and the other being 32-years old listed in serious condition have been transported to an area hospital. A 37-year old male victim was also transported to the hospital and is reported to be in critical condition.
There is no word at this time of any official details and a press conference is planned for 3:30 pm PST.
While the recent rule changes announced by YouTube have been a particular point of contention, we urge you to remain respectful of those affected by the shooting and have open and honest conversations with those that oppose your political views.
We extend our thoughts and sympathies to the victims and families affected.
