You can always count on SureFire for thoroughly bombproof, well thought-out gear. Their latest products to hit the market are no different, providing slick new options for civilians, law enforcement, and warfighters alike. Our own Iain Harrison shakes them out at the range with Thomas Carlson of SureFire. The Warden SOCOM Blast Diffuser attaches easily to SureFire's Fast Attach suppressor-compatible muzzle brakes and flash hiders. Muzzle brakes work wonderfully to reduce felt recoil and control muzzle rise — however, the downside is all the accompanying eye-watering concussion. The Warden surrounds the offending muzzle device, redirecting the muzzle blast forward and shielding teammates or others on the range from the angry barks of your blaster. It looks like a baby suppressor but is not an NFA controlled item, so anyone can purchase one. SureFire's second generation SOCOM suppressors improve on their well-known SOCOM suppressors which were selected by US Special Operations Command for the Mk18 and M4 several years ago. The SOCOM556-RC2 is constructed of advanced high-temperature alloys and stainless steel and has more advanced internal venting to reduce back pressure, reducing suppressed cyclic rate and gas blowback. The new design is more effective than ever, nearly eliminating first-round flash while producing minimal, consistent shift in point of impact compared with the unsuppressed weapon. Strength and durability is increased by about 80 percent, with the SureFire suppressors often outliving their host barrels. There's a 7.62mm version (SOCOM762-RC2) as well. The new second generation suppressors are expected to be available in mid-summer this year. The new SF Ryder 9Ti for 9mm pistols and rifles features a lightweight fluted titanium tube. Its pig-nose baffles are machined from heat-treated stainless steel, and are indexed and numbered for easy disassembly, simple cleaning, and reassembly. The Ryder 9Ti is available with ½ x 28 or 13.5 x 1 LH threads, and SureFire is offering drop-in threaded Glock barrels for a no-fuss path to the joys of suppressed shooting. Comes with Cerakote finishes in black, grey, and dark earth. The lightweight can was well-balanced and a joy to shoot. Iain also throws a SureFire SOCOM300-SPS suppressor on an Accuracy International AX Covert to check its impact on accuracy and point of impact shift. During manufacturing quality control, SureFire test fires each suppressor on a test bolt gun to ensure groups do not exceed 1 MOA. Check out the video to see how it does on the AX!
