Aimpoint kicked off SHOT Show‘s press conference with emphasis on shotgun sports, releasing their new Micro S-1. The red dot optic is designed specifically for use on shotguns with rib mounting solutions and larger dot size for fast flying clays and birds.
The Micro S-1 adds to their successful Micro line of optics, looking similar to the H-2 hunting rifle setup. It has the latest lens upgrades and technologies from the H-2, but it features interchangable base plates to accomdate most popular rib sizes. It can be mounted anywhere fore-or-aft along the ventilated top rail of the shotgun, so the user can dial in the exact position it's most comfortably seen along the rib.
The big, bright 6 MOA dot was chosen for the reflex-collimator sight's LED, giving a unlimited eye relief and a quick sight picture for chasing fast-flying clays and birds. Keeping the swing of your shotgun sporty, it is very lightweight at around three and a half ounces (with battery installed), due to the weight savings of a reinforced carbon fiber mounting system. At the Range Day demo, Beretta had this optic on their newest shotgun, and it blended seamlessly without any unusual swing characteristics that might be found with a heavier scope.
Powered by the commonly-found CR2032 3V Lithium battery, the usage and standby life is exceptional. To achieve the longest possible operating times, Aimpoint has focused on developing a completely new technology called Advanced Circuit Efficiency Technology (ACET), which has extremely low power consumption compared to other light sources. Depending on the battery used in our different products, ACET sights can last nearly 50,000 hours. There are 12 levels of brightness (and an “off” setting). Leave it on and don't worry about it.
Like all Aimpoint products, it's still going to be tough – they even kepting the immersion specs of the unit waterproof down to 15 feet.
Aimpoint is the originator of the red dot sight, and is has 42 years of making optical systems for demanding clients in military and sporting arenas to their credit.
Aimpoint is at booth #14573 during SHOT Show this week.

The NSSF SHOT Show (Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade Show) and Conference is an annual event held by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. Typically attended by thousands of people from all 50 states and over a hundred countries, it is (quite rightfully) described as the “…world's premier exposition of combined firearms, ammunition, law enforcement, cutlery, outdoor apparel, optics, and related products and services.
Imagine the Worlds' Fair, but packed with everything from mini-guns and every breed of body armor, bows and boots; from eye pro and ear pro to optics and ordnance, socks to swords…you get the idea. If you'd like to see a sampling of the companies who will be showing at this year's SHOT, there's a live map right here, though it doesn't reflect the organizations set up elsewhere, in hotel suites, etc
View imagery from our coverage of last year's SHOT Show here; 2015's is right here.
