Black Rain Ordnance Bolt Action

Black Rain Ordnance, a precision firearms manufacturer from Neosho, MO, recently highlighted some of the specs of their new bolt gun (they showed off the prototype at SHOT). Since most people know Black Rain Ordnance (BRO) for their AR15 and AR10 rifles, we thought we'd share.

The following description refers to the rifle shown in the pictures, a bolt action they've been working on for a little over a year. BRO's bolts, barrels and receivers are all built in house; each rifle is assembled from the ground up there locally. In order to increase stability consistency and still maintain smooth operation and a short 60 deg throw, the rifle has a 3 lug bolt design that locks housed by a true hex receiver. The shooter is given control over how the spent casing is ejected by the Sako style extractor working along with the springless ejector. The 24” barrel is threaded at the at the front of the receiver and the .250 recoil lug; this helps it to maintain spacing so the shooter can have increased and consistent accuracy. It uses a 6 groove 1:10 rifling and is fluted to 416R stainless The muzzle crown is offered in both threaded and non-threaded, so it can be used with a compensator or suppressor if desired. Both T2A and T5A stocks are Manner composites. Also unique to Black Rain Ordnance Inc is the trigger design. The triggers are preset at 3.5lbs but are adjustable with a spring change. According to Black Rain Ordnance, the trigger “operation is extremely crisp with a clean break and virtually no creep”. It will be available in .308, .338 Lapua and .223 and should be available in May.
