Not much point anymore to that pesky age-old “mankind’s fear of the dark” thing when you can carry a trusty, quality flashlight to keep it at bay. Browning has been making great flashlight for a long time. The latest examples of these, brand new for 2013, are the Blackout family of flashlights.
The Blackout 6V and Blackout 9V hand-held versions are Browning’s brightest CR123A multi-cell flashlights, while the Blackout 6V XM-L Headlamp is their brightest headlamp. They all feature a powerful Cree® XM-L white LED that will never need replacing, unless you think you’ll pass 50,000 hours of usage (that’s over 4,000 12-hr nights, hope you have enough batteries.)
Blackouts have an all-aluminum body, have passed a 1-meter “drop test,” are submersible to three feet for 30 minutes, and feature an optically clear scratch resistant glass lens. The hand-held versions possess a non-slip design and a finger retention ring, lock-out tailcap switches with momentary, continuous and fast strobe modes. The headlamp has a comfortable rubberized headplate that allows for completely silent tilting, and a 5-mode electronic switch (100%, High, Med, Low, Flashing).
The Blackout 6V hand-held is a two-battery version, 5.5” in length with an effective range of 250 yards, featuring 600 Lumen brightness that will run for 36 hours on low output. $157 MSRP.
The Blackout 9V, an 8.4”-long hand-held, three-battery lamp features 750 Lumen brightness, with an effective range of 500 yards and will run for 72 hours on the low setting. MSRP is $204.00.
The Blackout 6V headlamp shines at 550 lumens with a 150 yard range. It runs on (2) CR123A batteries for 40 hours on the low-power setting. $110 MSRP.
