Build Sheet: Grey Ghost SBR

Today we'll bring you the first of many Build Sheet. These reader-submitted pieces allow you to share your guns and the details thereof with the larger audience of RECOIL readers. We know that “build” isn't always the right term people prefer when talking about AR-15 assembly–and that's OK. PURPOSE

The idea behind this rifle was to balance size and capability, while ensuring the most modern set of controls.

THE BUILD

Unlike most builds, this started with a complete 10.5 inch barreled Grey Ghost Precision SBR. The barrel was pulled and swapped for a PROOF Research 11.5 inch carbon fiber wrapped barrel and topped with a Gemtech Quickmount flash hider for use with a silencer. For the buttstock assembly, a Maxim Defense PDW stock was utilized to shorten the whole package a bit. The gas block is a custom tuned quick-adjust Govnah from MicroMOA. Swapping from suppressed, unsuppressed, and adverse is very easy.

A Magpul K grip was installed because this shooter has small hands. For sights, an EOtech EXPS3-0 serves as the primary sighting mechanism, with a fixed Daniel Defense A1.5 front iron sight and a rear sight robbed from an FN SCAR. A low-powered variable optic such as a 1-6x will probably replace the EOtech in the relatively near future.

The Maxim Defense stock has a built-in QD socket, and a KeyMod compatible front swivel was added as well as a Sig Sauer low-profile QD added toward the front of the receiver. The sling itself is an American Weapons Components (formerly Ares Armor) Huskey advanced two-point

The trigger and pins are from KE Arms. The ambidextrous selector lever, also from KE Arms, has numerous lever sizes and can be configured for either 45 or 90 degrees throws without modification of the lower. This rifle uses a 45 degree though, but used in a non-ambi fashion.

A Redi-Catch from Boonie Packer is used, which allows the magazine release to serve as a bolt-hold-open for malfunction clearance. When used in conjunction with the embedded bolt release on the Grey Ghost Precision lower you end up with a slick setup that doesn't require anything extra dangling in the trigger guard.

Accessories on the front end include covers from Rail Scales, a Unity Tactical VFG, and a finger stop from Arisaka. The weapon light is a Surefire M300 with conversion head, with a UE tailcap and SR-07 switch mounted on the top rail for ambidextrous use.
