Bulletproof Backpack from Leatherback Gear

We're living in vastly different times than twenty years ago; mass shootings happen all-too-often. Leatherback Gear offers a bulletproof backpack as an option to be proactive in protecting yourself.

Currently, the company has two different backpack styles, the Tactical One and the Civilian One. The main differences between the two backpacks are Molle webbing, velcro panel, and heavier weight of the Tactical One. Outer design features of the Civilian One allows the wearer to fall into more of a gray man category.

Each backpack includes two hidden armor panels that are NIJ IIIa rated– meaning they having stopping power up to .44 Magnum. The company states, “the user can customize their level of ballistic stopping power by adding contents to their backpacks: e.g. laptop, tablets, textbooks/books, etc.”

Each backpack has features you'd expect to find on most backpacks, like:

  • Laptop storage compartment
  • Water resistant fabric
  • Felt-lined sunglass pocket
  • Easy access compartments
  • Internal front organizer
  • Fullback cushioning for comfort

Features that are unique to the purpose of the backpacks are:

  • Converts quickly to a protective vest
  • Internal system with red colored tabs to quickly convert the pack
  • RFID lined pocket on the back
  • Hidden pockets in shoulder straps and in the middle
  • Reinforced top handle that can hold up to 300 lbs
  • Several areas to connect military-type identification

Here's a video from professional shooter and firearms instructor, Corinne Mosher, showing how quickly her daughter can turn the Civilian One backpack from school gear to a protective vest.
