Fred Upham's father served in the Second Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, was wounded in action at the First Battle of Bull Run, spent time as a POW at Libby Prison in Richmond and was later appointed by President Lincoln to West Point. Fred wears a duplicate of his father's Class of 1866 West Point ring. He is one of just 35 known surviving children of Civil War veterans and he remember's his dad's stories of the “War Between the States” very well.
Clifford Hamm's father served in the 71st North Carolina. He followed in his father's military footsteps and became a U.S. Marine in World War II.
