Building on the success of its Moderns Precision Rifle, Christensen Arms expands the MPR caliber options for shooters hungry for more cartridges.
New chamberings include .300 Win Mag, .300 Norma Mag, and .338 Lapua on the long action configuration and 6.5 PRC on the short action model. The new calibers join the 6.5 Creedmoor and .308 Win.
Unveiled in Oct. 2017, the Modern Precision Rifle introduced Christensen Arms’ proprietary chassis system and lightweight design (CA likes to brag that its 16-inch .308 weights just 7-pounds). Machined from 7075 billet aluminum, the set-up uses V-block bedding — an attribute Christensen Arms declares “promotes superior accuracy.”
The MPR brings a feature laden style to the precision market, teeming with shooters ready to throw down coin for a precision system. Among its notables are an oversized fluted bolt knob and black nitride coated bolt, receiver, and muzzle brake in addition to an adjustable folding stock with a locking hinge mechanism. Though Christensen doesn’t go out of its way to hype up other characteristics, the match-grade flat trigger, skeletonized bolt handle, and tactical mag release are also worth noting.
Christensen Arms says the MPR’s aerograde carbon fiber barrel, free-floating M-LOK compatible handguard, and adjustable comb all work alongside the rifles other attributes to bring shooters to guaranteed sub-MOA.
While we’re on the topic of the 416R stainless steel barrels, lengths vary depending on caliber. On the short end, the .308 delivers a 16-inch’er while the .338 Lapua serves a 27-inch barrel length. The rest of the calibers run the gamut in between.
Adjustable length of pull matched with an adjustable carbon fiber cheek riser finish off the MPR build.
Christensen Arms says the new caliber options will drop sometimes this month, but no word on exactly when they will make their official debut. Those looking to save a little cash can grab up the short action model MPR, priced at $2,295, or splurge for the long action at $2,395.
