Gun maker Cobalt Kinetics launched all-new build kits and part packages designed to give AR-15 shooters more options when it comes to DIY.
The company says the rise in AR-15 custom builds and the ability for the platform to be outfitted with an array of accessories, led Cobalt to offer its own packages to consumers.
“Much of the appeal- and the main reason for the broad commercial success of the AR15 is its ability to be modified, customized, and personalized by anyone,” Cobalt said. “Considering the size of the entire AR accessory market, the DIY gunsmith can achieve millions of unique configurations.”
Lending to these configurations, Cobalt has introduced fixed and adjustable billet stocks, billet pistol grip, PRO buffer system and four muzzle devices in addition to the BAMF receiver set and add-on polymer magwell. While the company’s muzzle brakes have been offered as a stand-alone product for a few months now, the rest of the lineup is new to rifle builders.
For shooters looking for a more packaged feel, Cobalt delivers a receiver kit as well as an AR Performance Upgrade Kit. The chassis kit, adorably named the BYOB (or Build Your Own BAMF), offers the upper, lower, pistol grip, and handguard for $799.
Both the BAMF receiver set and the BYOB kit are equipped with the Dual Drop internal mechanism. The Dual Drop, according to Cobalt, drops in a second forward assist control mirrored on the left side of the upper while mechanically connected to the ride side assist and bolt catch. Pressing either forward assist results in a released bolt and chambered round.
Following the BYOB setup is the AR Performance Upgrade Kit. This system ships with PRO Brake, PRO Buffer system and a low-profile adjustable gas block all for right at $350.
Cobalt says the parts come in any color — so long as that color is black; however, shooters in desperate need of bright pink, or any other color for that matter, can appeal to the company’s custom shop, Khaos Kinetic, for a little mercy (and maybe some bedazzling?)
“A lot of people buying our parts are big fans of the brand- but our complete rifle either isn’t in their budget, or they have a non-Cobalt rifle they really like, that they want to upgrade. These customers are now able to modify their AR-15s with much of the performance of our complete guns,” Skylar Stewart, Vice President of Cobalt Kinetics said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to get that kind of demand and feedback from a loyal market.”
