Eyes On: A Closer Look at Ltd. Edition Huron 3 Day Assault Pack

Here is a heads up for you. You can thank us later. Huron, a part of Tyr Tactical is going to be releasing a limited run of 3 Day Assaulter Packs for Black Friday.  The man in brown dropped one off here last week and so I am really liking some of the changes to the ubiquitous design (I believe I have owned the majority of similar 3 Day Assault Packs from other manufacturers at one time or another over the years.)  Here are some of the noticeable changes and some info on the pack and how you can get one on sale this Friday before it is released as a standard Huron item next year.

Huron did away with the normal Cordura back and decided 3D Spacer mesh would be a better idea.  As a man who is not friends with warm weather I approve of this change.

The waist belt was done away with on the 3 Day Assaulters pack, which I am also happy to see.  I never really used it on a pack of this size and it generally just gets in the way when using a belt rig.

The compression straps on the side are very generous in length, thus allowing jackets, tripods or shooting mats to easily be strapped to the sides of the pack.  This is typically where I kept bulkier items if I was out for just a night.  They also canned the PALS webbing and two strap loops on the bottom of the pack.  I never used these as I found it was trying to create a rucksack where there wasn't one.  This style of pack was designed to carry the minimum needed for short patrols that might end up getting extended, not the kitchen sink and enough gear to march across the country.  Of course, these style of packs are also suited well as a backpack to carry school books and a laptop, with the added advantage that you also don't have to worry about it falling apart every year.

I would like to thank the folks at Tyr Tactical for sending one of these up here for me to play around with.  It's an interesting update to the design and I look forward to sharing my thoughts with you guys on it in the new year after I have had time to really give it a workout.  I have it currently loaded up with all my bushcraft gear.

You can get one for yourself here if you are as intrigued by the new design as me; limit one per customer.

You can pick up this pack here, or check them out on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Flickr, Google+ or Twitter.
