Glock Adds New Models to Gen5 Lineup

While most of the industry was abuzz about Glock’s Coyote creation, the 19X, the polymer powerhouse was also divvying up new pistols on its Gen5 series.

In the shadows of the 19X, the next generation G26 and G34 MOS quietly made their debut to the public Tuesday, rounding out the Gen. 5 series which already houses the G17 and G19.

Continuing the 9mm theme, the Gen5 G26 and G34 offer some upgraded features that aim to set the new models apart from previous gens. Most notably, Glock has equipped both pistols with its Glock Marksmanship Barrel, or GMB, which the company touts as more accurate than previous barrels. Featuring polygonal rifling and an upgraded barrel crown, Glock says the GMB is a vast improvement over Gen4 barrels in terms of accuracy.

“The development of our Gen 5 pistols was the result of the constant pursuit of perfection and a desire to meet the requests of the consumer market,” said Glock, Inc. VP Josh Dorsey in a statement. “We have combined the standards of high-level performance and reliability with distinctive design enhancements to improve durability, accuracy, and performance. The benefits enhance the shooter experience at the range and in high-stress situations where fractions of a second matter.”

In addition to the new barrel set-up, the Gen 5 G26 and G34 remove the finger grooves but add an ambidextrous slide stop lever. Rounding out the notable features is the new nDLC finish.  The nDLC finish delivers a sleeker look with improved corrosion and scratch resistance, according to Glock. The Gen5 G26 and G34 only come in basic matte black.

Born from the company’s Glock M pistols, which serve as the FBI’s go-to sidearm, Glock claims to have dropped over twenty tweaks into the models featured on the Gen5 series.

As with the other Gen5 models, Glock includes its standard OEM plastic sights. For some extra coinage, Glock fans can choose upgraded sights by selecting night sights or Ameriglos.  The Gen. 5 G26 offers a base price of $699 for standard sights, $749 for night sights and $799 for Ameriglo sights.

The long slide G34 MOS, or Modular Optics System, opts for a cover plate and adapters to allow installation of popular slide mounted pistol optics. The  G34 MOS comes in at $899.

Both pistols are set to officially debut on dealer shelves Jan. 22.
