Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) ventures into the striker-fired pistol world, introducing the all-new Masada series of handguns designed for military, law enforcement, and civilians.
Chambered in 9mm with a barrel length of 4.1-inches, the Masada sports an overall length of 7.4-inches and a weight of 22.9 ounces sans magazine.
The Masada is outfitted with features aimed at making it a competitive entry into the already packed pistol market. IWI’s handgun features passive safety mechanisms, to include a firing pin block safety and built-in trigger safety.
Continuing down the safe line of thinking, the handgun forgoes the trigger pull takedown method, opting for a mechanism that allows disassembly without trigger engagement. For gun owners who need even more safety features, IWI intends to offer a model equipped with a manual safety.
Masada pistols come standard with front and rear slide serrations as well as what the company is calling, “enhanced ergonomics” that boast an improved grip angle. Three interchangeable backstraps ship alongside the handguns, creating more comfort options among various hand sizes.
Utilizing a glass-reinforced polymer frame, the Masada pistols serve up a polygonal cold hammer forged barrel in a 1:10RH twist. The pistol series flaunts a fully ambidextrous slide stop and magazine release with standard, fixed 3-dot Meprolight night sights rounding out its features.
The pistol pushes capacity to 17+1 with its mags providing visible round count. IWI will offer the Masada in three color options — OD Green, Black and Flat Dark Earth– that will surely set tactical hearts aflutter.
“This is our first entry into the striker fired pistol market and we are very pleased with the results. Having a completely ambidextrous system, coupled with IWI's famous performance, will make this a serious contender for civilian and government customers,” Casey Flack, CEO of IWI US, said in a statement.
The Masada is set to officially make its way into the consumer market in the first quarter of 2018.
