Kimber branches out, announcing a new manufacturing facility in Alabama aimed at bringing more products to more consumers.
Kimber said its rapid growth over the past 21 years had dictated the need for more space and more workers. The company already has two manufacturing locations in New York and Montana. The new facility will take up residence about an hour outside Montgomery in the town of Troy, Alabama.
Consumer demand for Kimber’s flashy firearms was the driving force behind the Alabama facility. The gun maker, who released several new products at the end of last year, says the new factory is expected to ease the pressures of that demand by doubling manufacturing capacity.
“Due to an unprecedented year-over-year growth in demand, every time the company has embarked upon a planned expansion, the newly created capacity is exhausted before the expansion is complete,” said James Cox, Kimber’s chief financial officer. “As we continue to move into uncharted waters in regards to Kimber product demand, it was important to us to build a facility that will allow us to secure a significant new plateau of capacity.”
Kimber, who made the announcement Tuesday, said plans down South have finally been ironed out for the state-of-the-art facility. The new plant’s focus will encompass both design engineering as well as actual production.
“We will be building a large, automated, state-of-the-art design engineering and manufacturing facility in Troy to support Kimber’s growth plan and strategy,” said Greg Grogan, Kimber’s chief operating officer. “This expansion, in conjunction with our existing manufacturing facilities, talented and experienced employees, and best-in-class products provides for exciting times here at Kimber.”
Kimber expects to set up shop quickly, kicking off operations in the new facility in early 2019.
