NEW from Liberty Ammunition comes the 10mm, 70grain, OverWatch ammo. How fast is it? Liberty says 2,150 FPS.
Designed for a government contract and only offered in limited amounts before now, the OverWatch features an “Open Cavity Design” (OCD™) with a “(MOD™) design feature. “MOD” = “Maximum Organ Displacement”.
Gary Ramey, CEO of Liberty Ammunition, said “We have dialed in self-defense ammunition.
Liberty OverWatch penetrates barriers and ruptures 3-4” in soft tissue. In contrast, our Civil Defense line ruptures almost immediately. Liberty OverWatch displaces organs and stops the threat immediately with terminal performance. There is no such thing as a flesh wound with Liberty Ammunition”.
At $49 per box of 20, this isn’t cheap plinking ammo. But a lightweight, very high velocity 10mm round does have some interesting potential.
Gel testing and more information are scant, but Liberty states that this ammo:
With a little math we can see that they might be right.
70gr ammo moving at 2,150 FPS means 719 ft.lbf of energy at the muzzle. This would edge out Hornady 155gr XTP’s 1,410 FPS and 684 ft.lbf and Buffalo Bore’s 220 HC at 1,175 FPS hitting 675 ft.lbf.
