CROSSBREED HOLSTERS

The Reckoning Holster

Fits: Most popular models from CZ, Glock, Heckler & Koch, SIG SAUER, Smith & Wesson, and more

MSRP: $70

Notes: Naming anything “The Reckoning” in the tactical world can be tricky. You either bring the goods or you’re setting yourself up for endless ridicule. Fortunately, this holster from CrossBreed delivers what its moniker implies — a well-thought-out design that can help settle the score, be it in competition or in a defensive situation.

As an inside-the-waistband (IWB) holster, The Reckoning Holster has a top-grain leather backer in one of three options: black cowhide, premium horsehide, or Founder’s Series 100-percent vegetable-tanned leather. The leather will not only boost comfort, but slowly conform to your torso. Meanwhile, the pocket is made of quality Kydex, providing precise fitment for your pistol. The Kydex comes in Black or (for an additional $5) Flat Dark Earth, Olive Drab, or Sniper Grey.

Since no two shooters have the same body and handgun (unless they’re twins with identical diets, workout plans, and concealed carry weapons), the holster has multiple points of adjustment for personalization, including belt clip height. The Reckoning can be worn in the appendix, strong-side, or cross-draw positions. It even comes with easy-to-install hardware to be worn outside the waistband.

TENICOR

SAGAX LUX

Fits: Glock 19, 23, 32 with or without Streamlight TLR7, SureFire XC1-B, XC2, Inforce APLc

MSRP: $109

Notes: There aren’t many holsters that’ll hold a pistol both with and without a rail-mounted light attached. Tenicor’s VELO holster is one of our favorites for AIWB EDC, so when we saw the SAGAX at the Triggrcon 2019 trade show we were excited to see if the SAGAX brings the comfort and security of the VELO to a light-bearing holster.

There are literally too many features baked into the SAGAX to cover here, so we’ll cover the big standouts. The first is the way the holster secures the pistol. Instead of snapping around the trigger guard, the thermo-molded shell pinches the pistol between the slide and the bottom of the trigger guard. This is how it manages to hold the gun securely both with and without a light attached.

The broad, molded-in body wedge finds its way into the most comfortable position just outside the waist’s centerline and holds it there without creating a hotspot. The pair of steel belt clips provide rotational stability and a talon-like grip on a belt. Those clips from Discreet Carry Concepts are rough on nice leather belts, but they’re the absolute thinnest and most secure non-loop belt clip we’ve seen.

The other notable feature is the use of an adjustable camming bar that replicates the work of an offset belt claw and rotates the pistol grip into the body. It does this without increasing the holster’s width. And, that leads us to the SAGAX’s key attribute: its size. The depth, width, and height of the SAGAX is barely more than a non-light bearing holster, making it extremely concealable. As for adjustability, ride height and the level of grip rotation are tunable.

One holster that’ll securely hold a Glock 19 with or without any of the most popular mini rail-mounted lights attached is a compelling pitch for guys who don’t want to settle on one light. It’s also a great setup for budget-conscious agencies that want to give its officers the option of carrying an array of lights.
