In this installment of Training Tuneups, Dan Brokos of Lead Faucet Tactical takes us through the 25 Second Barricade Carbine drill.
When it comes to shooting, speed and precision are the ultimate goals for any accomplished shooter. Whether on the range, in military or LE scenarios, or even in competition shooting, quick, precise shots are required for success, and no matter what discipline of shooting you are involved in, it is important to remember that you’re your skills are perishable. Shooters can enhance their time at the range and test their abilities by running drills. Shooting drills are designed to help us keep our skills and fundamentals sharp so that when we need to apply them, even in sudden or uncomfortable situations, we can do so effectively.
Consisting of twelve shots, this drill involves moving between two barricades, a combination of firing positions, and speed. This drill provides an opportunity for shooters to work on managing their heart rate and controlling their breathing to place accurate hits on steel at ranges from 40 to 50 meters. All you need to run this drill is a piece of steel and two barricades.
Start by taking two shots from 50 meters, then two shots standing from left and right at 45 meters, two shots kneeling from left and right at 40 meters, and then two final shots back at the 50-meter cones. The goal: all shots placed on target in under 25 seconds.
Dan successfully hits all shots in 22:09 seconds. Check out this drill to see how your skills stack up to Dan’s.
The next time you head to the range, give this simple yet challenging drill a try and let us know how your skills stack up. For more ways to enhance your firearms training, check out RECOILtv for more Training Tuneups.
