Consider this my official RSVP to the Savage Arms booth, where the company has said it will showcase more than 25 new products. (Looks like someone has been busy.)

Savage, best known for providing affordable rifle options, has unleashed a barrage of rifle variants that will make their debut within the walls of SHOT Show. While the gun maker has expanded options in its Model 110 series and MSR lineup, the two biggest things I’m interested to see at the Savage booth are its AccuFit offerings as well as the new Modern Sporting Rifle chambered in .224 Valkyrie.

The AccuFit models, formally introduced in early January, expand on the Model 110s providing some extra customization. Namely, the AccuFit system can be adjusted for both comb height and length of pull without dragging it into a gunsmith or doing any serious damage at home in the tinkering process. Comb height comes down to five riser settings in 1/8 increments while LOP is fine-tuned with four inserts — thankfully, included in the box

Now, Savage has said that all these modifications won’t mess with the balance or general feel of the Model 110s but I want to see if that PR speak is true. Best way to determine that piece of information is to actually play with the rifle in the booth, swap those risers in and out, and get a good feel for how adjustments affect weight distribution.

Additionally, I want to see how fitting this system is for those of us on the petite side. It’s all well and good when you’re accommodating 5’10” and 6’2” but what about the little people who fall under the 5’3” category? The rifle’s true adjustment range and fit, my friends, are what I’m determined to uncover.

Despite the AccuFit occupying space as the newest to land on Savage’s line, the MSR chambered in .224 Valkyrie has also caught my eye. The rifle accompanies the .224 Valkyrie cartridge introduced by Federal Premium late last year. The round is supposedly positioning itself to become the next hot precision cartridge and Savage is obviously looking to jump in early on that potential success. Built on the MSR 15 Recon platform, the Valkyrie features an 18-inch barrel with 1/2×28 muzzle break. Though not capable of some of the fine-tuning the AccuFit brand offers, the Valkyrie does sport an adjustable mid-length gas system to provide better ammo cycling.

The Valkyrie keeps to a spiffy tan/coyote theme with matte black barrel and accessories all of which Savage offers at $1,499. Whether the Valkyrie is worth its weight in gold will be determined at SHOT.

The most overwhelming of my planned stops, Savage has certainly ensured that I will have plenty to check out during my tour of their booth. Stay tuned to RECOIL for more Savage Arms news during SHOT Show.
