Ruger recently added the AR-556 Pistol to its website. The addition was a soft release prior to the pistol’s official launch, which is planned to coincide with the NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits (NRAAM) in April. Ruger plans to release several new products leading up to NRAAM.
We learned about the new AR-556 Pistol at a recent Ruger media event held at FTW Ranch.
The pistol shot flawlessly during the event. However, we didn't spend an excessive amount of time with the AR pistol because there were a few other items that caught our attention… *wink, wink*
Starting from the front, the pistol has a Ruger flash suppressor on the 1/2″-28 threaded 10.5-inch cold hammer-forged 4140 chrome-moly steel barrel. It's chambered in 5.56 NATO and has a 1:8 twist rate. The company says the carbine-length gas system allows the AR-556 to use a wide variety of ammo. Slim and free-floating, the 9-inch handguard has M-LOK accessory attachments at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions. The forged upper and lower receivers are made from aerospace-grade 7075-T6 aluminum. The pistol has a carbine-length gas tube and is fitted with an adjustable SB Tactical SBA3 Pistol Stabilizing Brace. The Pistol ships with a 30-round Magpul PMAG.
