SeaLife Sea Dragon Mini 600

Gear FYI: SeaLife, a well known member in the underwater photographic equipment industry, recently advised they're releasing a new product- the Sea Dragon Mini 600 Light. The light was originally created to provide powerful illumination for wide-angle photography. Apparently though it has been further developed into a weapon light for tactical use. Instead of focusing its high beam on one particular spot like many common weapon lights, this light spreads 600 lumens across a 75 degree circle using the CREE XM-L2LED and smooth reflector. This helps detect and identify secondary or non threats in close quarters, though naturally if used in close confines one would need to watch for wall splash.

The Sea Dragon is made of solid polycarbonate and was designed without switches, which are likely to fail in harsh environments. Instead the light uses a 3-degree twist of the bezel, which is also internally shockproof, to power on and off. To go from 100% to 40% power, or vice versa, simply twist the light off and back on quickly. According to SeaLife, due to “precise threading” and 3 sealed O-rings, the powering on/off action is “smooth, silent, reliable and predictable”. On one charge with the optional Tenergy 18650 li-on battery, the Sea Dragon operates for 100 minutes on full power. With the pair of CR123 lithium ion batteries, the Sea Dragon can operate for 60 minutes on full power. With the Sea Dragon you get Y-S monopod and cold-shoe adapters (for a standard camera), a GoPro adapter, a safety lanyard for manipulating your light with your hand, O-ring lube and batteries. The retail is $129.95, and you can purchase the offset Picatinny rail adapter separately for $19.95. A spot-beam head is also available.
