Harry Truman once said, “Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices.” This issue’s submission comes from retired SSG Frank Garren of Old Fort, North Carolina. His tattoo is dedicated to remembering some of the friends he served our country with who gave their lives to protect our way of life. Thank a veteran for your freedom. It comes at a cost.

Honoring the Fallen

Frank Garren: I was wounded in Iraq in 2004 and considered myself one of the lucky ones. I decided on the soldiers’ cross and placed the American flag in the background. My friends I’ve lost I had added in military stencil. Since 2002, 22 of my friends and acquaintances have been lost, and I want them remembered. This was my way of honoring the fallen and those who were closest to me. Thank you for the opportunity to share their names with the world. The “Nemesis” tattoo on my wrist is Greek and represents the goddess Nemesis — goddess of retribution and justifiable revenge.
