SIG Sauer MCX Regulator [First Look]

Teased a few months ago, details have finally dropped for the SIG Sauer MCX Regulator! The short version is that it is an MCX rifle upper on top of a special MCX lower using a traditional rifle stock instead of a normal buffer tube and pistol grip while still using standard AR-15 pattern magazines.

SIG is promoting the rifle to ranchers and people who work the land, because as we all know the American farmer and rancher are known for having $3,000 MSRP to throw down on the latest big iron.

Available in 16-inch 5.56 NATO or 16-inch 7.62×39, there aren’t a lot of options for the Regulator, but that may change down the road.

The good news is that this seems to be an outstanding option for people living in ban states. States like California that have a long list of banned features, the MCX Regulator side-steps many of those by not having a pistol grip and using a muzzle break.

Barrel is 1:7 twist Cold Hammer Forged Carbon Steel, trigger is the 2-stage MCX match, and the weight for all three versions is 8-lbs.

The lower uses a Mossberg 590 stock and has redesigned where the safety is to better accommodate the stock. Like a normal MCX, the Regulator is fully ambi with the safety, magazine release, and bolt-catch on both sides of the lower.

All three versions come with 10-round magazines.

Thankfully, the special lower takes any standard MCX upper if you’re interested in changing out what is on top.

While this will undoubtedly be one of the more surprising options from SIG this year, and their marketing for it seems a little out of touch, it will have a place in the world and looks to be an interesting option for those with special circumstances.
