Happy EntrepreNewYear: Tin Roof – handmade cutting boards

Published by

A Renaissance Man should know (among many other things) how to cook. This requires certain implements and tools one does not typically find in a gun culture magazine. Among those — cutting boards and chef knifes. It is in acknowledgement of that fact, and as a nod to Edward Robert Bulwer-Lytton (1st Earl of Lytton) that we introduce you to Tin Roof Cutting Boards (@tinroofhome).

Headquartered in El Campo, Texas, Tin Roof Cutting Boards uses reclaimed Texas pecan wood, walnut, maple, oak, mesquite, padauk, purpleheart and teak to craft functional works of art for your kitchen. Their cutting boards are sealed, sanded and moisturized but are not stained, so you're always going to see each individual board's natural colors. Every one of these Tin Roof handmade cutting boards is the work of Kurt Pratka, his staff and the Tough Country Sawmill.

Fact is, a bone-in ribeye deserves better than a flat piece of plastic from Wal-Mart.

We’re starting 2016 out right — we’ll be showcasing worthy small American businesses all through the month of January. Capitalism is part of the foundation upon which our great republic stands, and small business is a vital part of that. Join us in recognizing and acknowledging that truth and supporting craftsmen and small businesses. Happy EntrepreNewYear.

We may live without poetry, music, and art;
We may live without conscience, and live without heart;
We may live without friends; we may live without books;
But civilized man cannot live without cooks. Bulwer-Lytton (1831-1891)

Tin Roof doesn't limit themselves to cutting boards though. You can also engage them to build you a variety of other accessories, among them wildwood bookends, cake stands, bread boards and even furniture. Perhaps the writer or student in you could use a monogrammed or otherwise personalized handmade clipboards (most are 9 x 13.5 in., with a smaller 6.5 x 9 in. available)?

Check out more of Tin Roof's work in their Etsy store.
